Title: OMG! Texting in Class by Richard Byrne
Source: School Library Journal-March 2011
This is a great article with a number of online resources to use in the classroom when polling your students. This article caught my eye as we did this at the SLATE conference in December. The first keynote speaker began by asking us a question and after Wall Wisher did not cooperate, he had us pull out our cell phones and text our answers.
This article took place in a high school classroom in a district that had a "no cell phone" use policy-just as my district has. By accident, an instructor began using cell phones to get class discussion going (students would text their parents, family members, etc). He began polling the family members and writing the results on the chalkboard/white board.
In addition to the texting, the author provided a number of polling websites to use in the classroom that don't always require the use of a cell phone.
